The article I am currently drafting, “Reparative Reason: Land as Reparations in Guyana”, focuses on the legal ambiguities of collective property claims and their implications for contemporary conversations about reparatory justice.

  • As a Digital Editorial Fellow with PoLAR: Political and Legal Anthropology Review, I curated this online Special Series entitled. My introduction to this Special Series offers a comprehensive overview of contemporary claims to reparations for slavery. It is being taught internationally in anthropology and human rights courses for example at the Graduate Institute of Geneva in Switzerland, see syllabus here.

Cover photo of the guava tapestry in the King’s room of the West Indian Warehouse that was built in 1780-81 and functioned as a storage building for colonial goods that were transported between Denmark and the former Danish West Indies, today the U.S. Virgin Islands of St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John.

I was the co-editor of the thematic issue “Undskyld” (English translation “Apologies”) of the anthropology journal Tidskriftet Antropologi, and co-author of the introduction in which we offered a provisional introduction to the field of apology studies and reparations in Denmark. 

For this issue, I also conducted and translated (Danish to English) an interview with Dr. David Scott (Columbia University) as well as I contributed a research article focusing on material redress through an historical anthropological analysis of the term “land justice is reparatory justice”.
